A leading Italian fashion brand that is from the newer generation, Armani was started in 1975. There are a few hit fragrance lines from the brand, Acqua Di Gio is one of the leading lines.

Acqua Di Gio was launched in 1995 and was designed for women. The men's version was launched in 1996 and interestingly all the later iterations are only for men.

The first version, the women's one was inspired by Armani's holiday on the island of Pantelleria, giving it a floral, lazy summer breeze scent. It has aquatic tones mixed in with woody Mediterranean warmth.

The diverse men's range

The first men's Acqua Di Gio has a similar feel to the women's version, minus the floral bits. It is still a mix of aquatic and wind themes on the top layers, with a woody base and musk to trail it off. There are multiple versions that have been released over the years, but all follow the original theme. With most that have been tweaked by the nose of Alberto Morillas and some have been aided by Annick Menardo, who was part of the creation of the original version too.

For the most part, the tones are based on the same ingredients such as jasmine, calone, cedar, oakmoss, amber, bergamot, neroli, rosemary, patchouli, musk and lemon. To create variation these notes are changed in quantity and some others are added such as vetiver, mastic, mandarin or labdanum. One version even swaps calone for cascalone; the latter has a more freshwater feel compared to a marine feel.

The bottle is the same design with a variety of colours that also lets you know what the specific version is more attuned to, the blue bottles are closer to a marine breeze with the darker ones harkening the wood and musk sensations.
