Action Figure

The boys equivalent of the Barbie doll. The term 'action figure' was coined by Hasbro in 1964 when they were launching the G. I. Joe figure. It was coined as there was a little hesitancy from boys when playing with 'boy's dolls' as dolls were associated with girls. Action figures are posable, various ones have a different amount of joints that allow changes in pose. Initially, the clothes were changeable, later years saw clothes that were also moulded onto the characters. Today on can find a mix but the moulded clothes are more common.

Action figures were created for kids but there is a whole segment of collectables that adults also purchase. A lot of times brands produce collectable items that are not meant for playing but for display, they may be in just one stuck position.

One can find almost any character from well-known comics and movies in the form of action figures. Some of the most well-known action figures include characters from DC, Marvel, Star Wars and Power Rangers. There is not a fantasy story that one cannot find action figures for. A lot of these are licensed to toy manufacturers by the owners of intellectual rights.

Action figures are relatively more expensive toys but this does depend on what character it is and the size of the figure. Some action figures have extra items along with them such as clothes, weapons or accessories; this also affects the costs.

Certain action figure packs may have an age limit on them, this is more likely if there are smaller loose parts such as the accessories. Please check before purchasing for younger kids.
