A brand with legacy

Originally known as Onitsuka Tiger and started in 1949 by former military officer Kihachiro Onitsuka. His vision was to improve the self-esteem of the youth via athletics after the devastating war they had witnessed. The name Asics was adopted after a merger in 1977, it is an acronym for the Latin phrase 'anima sana in corpore sano', which translates as 'a healthy mind in a healthy body'.

Before Nike was Nike, it was Blue Ribbon Sports. Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman had convinced Asics that their brand had a market in the USA. This relationship lasted a few years before ending sourly, with both brands suing each other.

Asics also sponsors a host of teams and players across the board, from team sports to sports where individuals partake.

With a segment that has generalized sports shoes and another that caters with sandals and slippers.
