A brand with legacy

Originally known as Onitsuka Tiger and started in 1949 by former military officer Kihachiro Onitsuka. His vision was to improve the self-esteem of the youth via athletics after the devastating war they had witnessed. The name Asics was adopted after a merger in 1977, it is an acronym for the Latin phrase 'anima sana in corpore sano', which translates as 'a healthy mind in a healthy body'.

Before Nike was Nike, it was Blue Ribbon Sports. Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman had convinced Asics that their brand had a market in the USA. This relationship lasted a few years before ending sourly, with both brands suing each other.

Asics also sponsors a host of teams and players across the board, from team sports to sports where individuals partake.

Asics shoe range

Maintaining their quality for so many decades, today they have a way more comprehensive shoe catalogue. Asics is making shoes for track & field, wrestling, training, tennis, volleyball, basketball, golf, running and trail running. With a segment that has generalized sports shoes and another that caters with sandals and slippers.

Asics also produces apparel and accessories for sports, aside from their footwear range. As for pricing, Asics is a top-shelf brand with high-end prices to match. Their shoe range has designs for men and women, both.
