Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

A design wonder in the sense that the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is one of the most compact gaming laptops with a great power ratio, before this most gaming laptops were bulky with all the large components they housed. The design is slick enough to suit a gamer and subtle enough to be okay for a professional. The only downside of this laptop being compact is that it lacks a webcam.

Internals

To power this machine, Asus has fitted the Zephyrus G14 with the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS that was built with the 7nm process and has 8 cores and 16 threads; giving it a lot of processing grit. It has a base clock speed of 3.0GHz and can give a boosted performance of 4.3GHz. Alongside this, one finds the Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card that has its own GDDR6 RAM of 6GBs and features real-time ray tracing as well as AI-enhanced graphics.

For the CPU there is 8GB of DDR4 RAM with max compatibility of up to 24GB if needed. Storage is managed by an M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD at 1TB, giving you a lot of high-speed storage to make use of.

The display on the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is at 14 inches, is FHD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and has a super refresh rate at 120Hz. These two combined with the powerful GPU and G-Sync which makes sure to keep the refresh rate in step with the GPU make for a very vivid and smooth display.

Connectivity for this laptop is done via WiFi or Bluetooth; physical connectivity has multiple ports one can use. The right side has two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C, along with a Kensington lock if you want to keep your device locked in place at a work station. The left side features a power port, an HDMI port, a USB Type-C that can be used to power the laptop and as a DisplayPort out too, and a 3.5mm audio combination jack as well. All this gives one the ability to connect many devices or peripherals to their laptop. One would definitely need a gaming mouse if they are into serious gaming and you can use both a wired one or a wireless one.

The keyboard has a backlight which is very useful as a lot of times gamers sit in a more low-light environment so their display is more vivid and easier to focus on. There is a small row of buttons above the keyboard, these are for volume control, mic muting and a Republic Of Gamers control panel. The control panel is called ROG Armoury Crate and lets users manage their CPU, GPU and fan performance to optimise the system for heavier loads.

For audio, there are loud enough speakers if they are the only option, although a pair of external speakers or headphones would do you better. All the audio is powered by Dolby's Atmos technology, with software that lets one choose profiles such as Dynamic, Game, Movie, Music and Voice. One can also create a custom sound profile that suits their aural pleasure.

Another winning feature on the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is its battery, a class-leading battery that can go up to 11 hours; which is impressive. Thermal efficiency is also near peak, with the machine not heating up much even with the high-performance components. 

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is not just a great gaming machine that features on many of the top-option lists, it is a great machine for anyone looking for a serious contender for their creative work that needs a power-packed performance. That too in a compact size which is easily portable.

As is the case with most gaming laptops and high-performance machines the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is an expensive machine to purchase.
