Benefits of Aztec Clay

The clay is said to have been collected from the volcanic ashes of Death Valley, California as well as Fort Benton, a volcanically active region in Wyoming. It is known to be completely calcium bentonite clay that has no side effects other than possible dryness if used too frequently. When mixed with liquid and used as a mask, the clay has multiple benefits not only for the skin but also for your hair and body.

1. For Facial Skin

Aztec clay is a great exfoliator for the delicate skin of your face when used as a mask. It heals the skin, reducing inflammation and redness while cleaning it from within. The clay is loaded with minerals and nourishing nutrients that get absorbed by the skin and help rejuvenate it. Some experts also believe it can reduce the appearance of scars and blemishes if used over time.

It also helps clear out acne by drawing out impurities and bacteria from the skin's pores. You can also use it as an anti-ageing facial mask as it tightens the skin and prevents it from sagging. The clay can be used for tightening open pores as it clears all the dirt and grime that gets accumulated in the pores. Aztec healing clay can unclog plugged pores by cleaning them and then closing them by tightening the skin around them.

2. For Hair & Scalp

Aztec Clay also contains a strong mineral called silica that is great for hair and nails. The clay can be used as a nourishing mask for the hair and scalp. If you have an itchy scalp and dandruff is the main cause for that, using a hair mask made out of honey and clay can help resolve the issue. Clay and honey in combination provide moisture and hydration to the skin and scalp.

This will also soothe irritated skin and reduce inflammation. Apply it to the full length of the hair to reap its benefits as using it can make the hair shaft more supple and silky. 

3. For Feet & Body

The skin of the feet and the rest of your body too can benefit from Aztec clay as it relaxes and nourishes dry skin. Use it all over your body as an in-home spa treatment or use it just on your feet to make them super soft and smooth. You can also use it as a detoxifying body soak by adding 1/4 cup of the clay to the bath water. 

4. Insect Bites & Spot Treatment

It is known to heal the skin and soothe pain and discomfort related to insect bites on the skin. If you have developed a pimple overnight and don't want to use the mask on the whole face, use a small dot on the pimple to heal it. 

Tips & Comments

Experts suggest using Aztec clay mask once or twice a week for optimum benefits. It draws out impurities and excess oil and in the process, it can dry out the skin if used frequently. So it is important to give your skin time, let it heal fully before using the mask again.

You can mix it with water, rose water or apple cider vinegar and add in other ingredients like activated charcoal, honey, milk or lemon etc for multiple skin concerns. Make sure to wash off the mask properly so it does not leave any residue on the skin.

Always slather on a good moisturizer to prevent your skin from going dry and lock in moisture after washing off a mask. Do not use this mask for more than 10 minutes at a time as it can start drawing out moisture from the skin, making it dry and dehydrated.
