Barbican Drink

A non-alcoholic carbonated malt beverage, Barbican originates from the UK. The brewing is a three-step process, and today it is produced in Dubai, under the Aujan Coca-Cola Beverages Company (ACCBC).

It is available in the original flavour which was just plain Malt, but later more flavours were added. The other flavours are based on fruits and include Peach, Raspberry, Strawberry, Grape, Pineapple, Mango & Passion Fruit, Apple, Pomegranate and Lemon.

Barbican drinks are often used as portions in recipes for other drinks and desserts. The original malt flavour is also consumed along with cheese or chocolate.

Barbican drinks are sold in 330ml quantities, either in cans or in glass bottles. The Mango & Passion Fruit and Pomegranate flavours are only sold in the bottles. There has been study into the health effects of Barbican drinks but nothing concrete has been found that is worrisome. The drink does contain larger quantities of sugars so very regular intake may be unhealthy, as is true of all soft-drinks.

Over the years there has been much debate over whether Barbican drinks are Halal, as it is made in a similar fashion to beer. The international consensus is that it is Halal.
