Beauty Blender Sponge

The egg-shaped edgeless makeup sponge, the Beauty Blender is hands down the most revolutionary makeup product of the 21st century. Rea Ann Silva, the Latina makeup artist invented this perfect makeup blending tool in 2007 to help makeup wearers achieve a seamless and flawless makeup without putting in much effort. The original Beauty Blender was a pink coloured egg-shaped latex-free makeup sponge. Today, they come in all sizes and shapes and are manufactured by various brands under different names such as makeup sponge, makeup blender etc. 

How to Use Beauty Blenders

You can blend foundation, concealer, corrector, contours, strobes, highlighters, blushes, BB/CC/DD creams etc as well as pressed and translucent powders. They are best used when wet but not dripping. Wetting it expands it to double its size temporarily and the sponge tends to absorb little to no product preventing product wastage. After wetting it up, squeeze out the excess water and towel dry the sponge. Use it damp to blend out cream or liquid foundations, concealers, correctors as well as translucent and pressed powders. Blend out the product in bouncing and patting motion instead of dragging the sponge across the face.

Washing, Storing & Replacing

It is necessary to wash your sponge after every use and then let it completely dry out to prevent bacteria from harbouring inside. Use a liquid blender cleanser and soak your sponges for a while. Then swirl, compress, squeeze and rinse repeatedly until all product residue is removed and the sponge is squeaky clean. Squeeze out the excess water and then place the sponge in a clean and well-ventilated place to dry out completely. Store your beauty blenders at a cool, clean and airy place.

Do not wrap them up or store them in bags. Leave them open at a clean place to keep them in constant contact with natural air and sunlight. Some people use egg cups as a perfect mould for storing beauty blender. While travelling, never carry your sponges in makeup bags, instead put them in airy pouches so they can breathe. Remember to replace your beauty blender every three months just like you would with your mascara or toothbrush.
