Latest Canon DSLRs

Though many photographers argue that DSLRs have become old-fashioned and mirrorless cameras are the future, DSLRs have still a lot to offer and Canon hasn't stopped producing them yet. In fact, Canon is best known for its EOS DSLRs. Their latest camera that got unveiled in 2019 is the enthusiast targeted Canon EOS 90D. It has a 32.5-megapixel APS-C image sensor and runs on a DIGIC 8 image processor. The camera features an electronic shutter capable of speeds of up to 1/16000, dual-pixel autofocus in live view with 5,481 selectable points, uncropped 4K/30 video recording, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and USB-C. 

Explaining EOS 

In a move to stand out from the competition, Canon decided to give a separate identity to its line of digital cameras and produced a lineup by the name of Canon EOS DSLRs. While many mistake EOS to be a special built-in functionality of these cameras, EOS merely refers to Electro-Optical System which has now become an umbrella term for all DSLR and film cameras by Canon. Also, EOS is a standard operating mechanism that all Canon cameras use now.

Types

Canon classifies its DSLRs into four major categories; entry-level, mid-range, prosumer and professional level.

1. Canon Entry-Level DSLRs

Some of the most famous entry-level Canon DSLRs are the EOS 1200D and EOS 1300D. If you are a beginner level photographer who wants to learn the art of photography or would like to take it up as a profession, start out with these cameras first. The Entry-Level cameras are intended for new users who want to dip their toes into the ocean of digital photography. The entry-level iteration showcases a lightweight body for a firm and easy grip while providing controls that are easy to understand and operate. This category features multiple functions including noise reduction, time-lapse, better precision and autofocus along with numerous other features. Apart from being easy to handle, these cameras are also pretty easy on the wallet. 

2. Canon Mid-Range DSLRs

The popular mid-range Canon DSLRs are the EOS 70D, EOS 80D, and EOS 6D. The Mid-Range category gives more control and power than the entry-level cameras and is also packed with sturdier features. Targeted at the photography enthusiasts who have apt knowledge of amateur photography and camera operations, this iteration has to offer a punch in every feature, ranging from resolution to sensors and from the body to image processors. Some of these cameras also feature Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity. 

3. Canon Prosumer High-End DSLRs

The prosumer category consists of high-end full-frame cameras suitable for semi-professionals. The cheapest and most versatile full-frame camera in this category is their EOS 6D that was launched in 2012 and was replaced by the 6D Mark II in June 2017. The prosumer level cameras feature better weather-sealing than the beginner and amateur lines. The 1-digit (xD) formerly reserved for full-frame cameras that came with the launch of the EOS 7D in 2009, is now also used to designate crop-sensor (APS-C) cameras. 

4. Canon Professional Level DSLRs

According to many connoisseurs, the best Canon DSLR in this category is the EOS 5DS R which is considered as the finest DSLR in the world. Other honourable mentions in this category include the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and EOS 7D Mark II. They are targeted at professionals only, as it requires strong expertise to understand and master the functionality and operations of these cameras. This category includes some of the most powerful cameras that exist in the photography industry today. Some of these even offer up to 50.6-megapixel result, 4K movie shooting, full-frame CMOS sensor, Dual DIGIC 6, 61 points AF system and many other amazing features.
