The successor to 70D, the 80D brings a 25% increase in pixel count over its predecessor, a significant step up in detail resolution for the majority of the sensitivity range. The 7,560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor in Canon EOS 80D delivers accurate and consistent exposure in a wide variety of lighting situations and also detects both infra-red and visible light. The camera comes with a headphone and microphone ports for audio monitoring and the ability to record audio.

Design & Build

Weighing 730g, the camera has the dimensions of 5.47 x 4.13 x 3.11 inches. Constructed out of aluminium and polycarbonate resin with glass and conductive fibre the EOS 80D feels robustly built and solid in hand. Though not constructed on the same standards of weather-resistance as the EOS 7D Mark II, the 80D is weather-sealed to an acceptable degree. The camera lacks a dual card slot, a feature many high-end brands are incorporating in their DSLRs. 

Screen & Viewfinder

The viewfinder has a 100% coverage with 0.95x magnification. Featuring a 3 inch, 1.04M-dot articulating touchscreen, the EOS 80D has a 45-point phase-detect autofocus system. Though it can shoot Full HD 1080p60 videos, 80D lacks one of the most important video features of today; 4K video recording. While taking burst shots under flickering artificial lights, the camera's Flicker Detection delivers consistent exposure and colour, keeping the pictures crisp and clear. Canon EOS 80D captures both images and videos with reduced noise and high sensitivity for working in unfavourable lighting conditions. 

Processor & Performance

It uses a DIGIC 6 image processor and is capable of capturing high-resolution images at up to maximum 7 fps continuous shooting speed. The images are instantly ready for editing and display right after shooting, thanks to the DIGIC 6 processor. For stills, Live View AF is super fast, and with the combination of the touchscreen LCD to quickly change the focus point, it's a very useful feature. For video work, the Dual Pixel system provides pleasing, smooth and cinematic-looking AF performance. Camera's large ISO sensitivity range of ISO 100 -16,000 (expanded 25,600) eliminates the requirement for flash and gives faster shutter speeds allowing for natural atmospheric pictures when light levels drop. 

Storage & Battery

80D is compatible with fast SD/SDHC/SDXC UHS-I cards for storing data and can take 960 shots on a single charge. 

Connectivity Features

EOS 80D allows for wireless shooting of videos and images from your smart device with a real-time view of the action and control over settings. The Canon Camera Connect app lets you quickly transfer full-resolution images and videos to smart devices for instant and easy sharing on the go. Canon has also included NFC connectivity in the 80D. This allows you to connect the camera to an NFC enabled smartphone, tablet, the Canon Connect Station CS100 or other Canon cameras with just a touch. Apart from sharing images over the internet, wireless connectivity enables users to control the camera remotely via Canon's free app.
