Often compared to Nikon Z6 and 5D Mark IV, the EOS R is the first full-frame mirrorless camera by Canon. The closed shutter on the camera prevents the dust or other particles from entering the camera body, keeping the sensor clean. It bears many similarities to the 5D Mark IV and EOS 6D Mark II but is relatively cheaper than the 5D Mark IV and pricier than the 6D Mark II.

Build & Design

EOS R adorns a magnesium shell with a magnesium alloy casing in a matte finish. The camera is robust hence gives a firm grip and a comfortable hold. Though the EOS R sports a beautiful matte finish, it is prone to scuffing just like any other matte finish camera body. A cross between the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS 6D Mark II, the EOS R is relatively thinner and smaller. It looks and feels almost the same as the 6D Mark II. Canon EOS R comes with a weather and dust resistant body that for sure is durable. The vari-angle fully articulated touchscreen is sized at 3.15 inches with 3.69 Million dot electronic viewfinder.

Performance & Sensor

Just like the EOS 5D Mark IV, the Canon EOS R comes with a full-frame CMOS sensor DIGIC 8 Image Processor. Sporting a 30 Megapixel sensor, the camera can record 4K videos with 10-bit output over HDMI. EOS R delivers great dynamic range and excellent image quality in all lighting conditions with a downside being the cropped 4K videos. It would have been great if the 4K videos were full-frame.
