Description

Basics on the DJI Osmo Pocket

With videography being so common today a device with a camera that is stable on 3-axis, which is portable and easy to use is already winning. The DJI Osmo Pocket is aimed at making ones camera skills seem better when shooting, it is not designed for high-quality raw formats. Built with only 2 buttons on it, one that when held down turns it on and the other that has a red dot on it which is to start recording. The first button is also used in multiple ways, one press toggles between video and picture mode. 2 presses recentres the camera and 3 presses makes it swivel into selfie mode. For more options one can use the touch screen or attach their smartphone to the Osmo Pocket, though that defies the purpose of handheld functionality but does give one a larger screen. Connecting to the smartphone can also be done via a separately bought accessory for Bluetooth.

Shooting quality and modes

Video shooting on the DJI Osmo Pocket is at 4k or 1080p, which can be shot at 30 or 60 frames per second. THe 1080p footage can also be shot at 120 frames per second. The lens is at f/2.0 with the ISO range from 100-3200. The device also has the ability to shoot time-lapses and motion-lapses. Setting these up is easy, which says something about the well thought out design of the Osmo Pocket. With images being shot at 12MP, but the speed one is able to shoot at is impressive. The camera comes back to shooting mode almost instantly, in comparison to a smartphone or DSLR.

One manually has to be ready to change settings when panning from a normal area to a possibly overexposed area. The audio is only of a certain quality as it is shot on a very small microphone. The DJI Osmo Pocket can shoot for about 140 minutes when shooting at 1080p/30fps.

This is a well-built device, but given the nature of design it is not water-resistant. The DJI Osmo Pocket is from a mid-range price point.
