Dollar is a Pakistani brand that was started in 1954, by Mohammad Siddiq in Karachi. Initially, he worked on making inks and over time started making writing instruments, which at the time meant making a fountain pen as that was the prevalent writing technology.

In Pakistan, Dollar pens were the standard pens in use in schools and offices. In the 1990s it was the standard pen to purchase for school and most students used them. 

Dollar has many different kinds of pens today, with a presence in multiple countries across the continents.

Dollar Pens

Over time the general usage of pens has reduced somewhat, still, this is something that has not been phased out of our life despite all the advancements in how we write digitally.

Dollar has a few different pens. The categories include fountain pens, ballpoint pens, roller & gel pens and fibre tip pens. The fountain pens that brand has available are all with a fine nib, save one; the 717 Qalam is designed for calligraphy scripts. The ink tanks are designed with a piston which is moved using a screw mechanism, this draws the ink up into it. For students, the tanks are slightly larger as they may have a lot more writing to do. Students are also recommended fountain pens to develop better writing.

The Dollar ballpoint pens have some variety, giving one multiple options to choose from based on prices or whichever pen is more comfortable. Ballpoints in general are used everywhere. There are sub-lines called Note, Clear Stic, Jetflow, SticPen, Budget and Clipper. One can find click pens or pens with caps. The ink colours have a choice as certain offices use specific colours. The colour range includes green, red, blue and black.

For gel-based pens, the brand has only one variant. This pen is available in the same colour range as ballpoints as well. 

Fibre tip pens are essentially fine markers. This means there are some limitations to the surfaces they are able to write on. Fibre tip pens do not work for super smooth or laminated surfaces. The Dollar fibre tip pen range has more variety as far as colours go, one can find almost all the colours all the way from black to pink, green, brown, azure and many more. The various models all have a 0.3mm line, with the exception of one variety that is 0.5mm.

Dollar pens are available for nominal prices, making them accessible for most people. The quality is good, but naturally, a Dollar fountain pen is not the same quality as a Parker or Sheaffer, still if one were to lose it they could replace it easily.
