Fog Lights

As the name suggests these are lights designed to penetrate fog and improve visibility. Fog lights are available from many different brands and can be based on various light technologies, including halogen or LED.

Most fog lights are amber or deep yellow in colour so they can penetrate the fog better. White lights might be brighter but as the fog is white they tend to make the fog more visible in comparison to the road or environment; essentially the fog acts as a filter to the white light, stopping it close to the light source.

The deep yellow from amber lights cuts through the fog making the surroundings more visible and this is what fog lights are needed for. Fog lights should be at least a 1000 lumens to be powerful enough for most situations. If one has extremely bad weather places to visit, higher lumens would help.

One can find fog lights that are not too expensive but of course, there are brands that make high-quality ones which would cost a lot more. A known brand for fog lights is Bosch, the German car part and accessories manufacturer.

LED based fog lights are brighter than halogen ones but are also generally a higher initial cost.
