A snack that is an international favourite, French fries. Cutting potatoes for fries can be a tedious process. Getting them all to be an even thickness, so they fry at a similar rate and all cook well, can be tough especially in a hurry.

A French fries machine helps with this. It is built with a metal grid that the potato gets pushed through and comes out the other end as cut fries. The small squares are all the same size, so other than the fries that come from the curved part of the potato the fries are all the same thickness. One literally only has to peel a potato and push it through this machine to get fries. The latter bit would literally take seconds to do. You could also use an unpeeled potato, but it has to be washed really well so there are no residual mud grains.

Some of the French fries machines have multiple grids that vary in thickness. This lets one choose what thickness they want their fries to be.
