General Tyre

The General Tyre and Rubber Company of Pakistan Limited (GTR) manufacturing plant that was set up by the American brand General Tire International Corporation (GTIC) in Karachi, in 1963. In 1977 GTIC sold 90% of its shares to the Bibojee Group. The General tyre brand today is owned by the German company Continental AG, which means they own 10% of the retained ownership.

GTR is the largest tyre producer in Pakistan, catering to a third of the total market and catering to 85% of the different tyre sizes in demand. 

General Tyre types

In Pakistan, General Tyre produces various tyres for all the different vehicles one sees on the road, with options for tyres that have tubes or tubeless ones as well. The vehicles include passenger cars, trucks, busses, tractors, light trucks, motorcycles and rickshaws. GTR is in a contract with Continental AG and has to produce tyres at the standards set by the German parent company. 

The various categories have a variety of options to choose from. They have radial tyres and bias tyres, the radial tyres are better quality and have a longer life and more of the tread is in contact with the road at all times; improving the grip. One can also find tyres of varying wideness and a mix of treads.

Some of the tyres for larger vehicles have a wider tread so they can be used in a rough, offroad terrain.
