Inspired by a visit to Pantelleria, Armani wanted to create an equatic scent with summer warmth that was an ode to Mediterranean island life; Acqua Di Gio is the result of this inspiration. It is one of the leading colognes and fragrance lines at the brand.

The first was designed for women in 1995 and the men's version was launched in 1995; the latter became a way bigger hit. The original women's version has a more floral, fruity opening while the men's version has a lot more of a cutting citrus feel.

For the middle both share a lot of fruits, this gives more layers to the summer feel. There is also Calone in both, the watermelon ketone, which is famously used for aquatic tones. The bases are also similar, with musk, cedar and amber set into both. The women's version has sandalwood which gives the base some sweetness as well. The men's version has oakmoss for a more earthy smell.

To give both some spice at the base level, they have their own version of a spicy note. For women, it comes from styrax and for men from patchouli. All these layers come together beautifully, with an aquatic breeze that has flower and fruits carried with it; ending with a base that is woody and spicy.
