A brand owned by Huawei as part of the Huawei Consumer Business Group's dual-brand strategy. Designed for a younger generation, with more colours and style. Selling Honor phones mostly from an online platform and working with a select number of vendors on the ground.

Huawei Honor 9 Lite

This smartphone is designed with a mirror-like effect for the Sapphire Blue and Glacier Gray but not on the Midnight Black version. Released in 2018 the Honor 9 Lite has powerful specs even though the components are not from the top producers. A phone in this range would generally not have such specs.

OS, display and internals

Running the EMUI 8 skin that has been developed by Huawei, layered onto the Android 8 Oreo platform. This makes it a tad slower than if they had not added the skin but it gives the user some extra customisation options to personalise their experience. The screen size of the Honor 9 Lite is at 5.65 inches with a Full HD resolution of 1080x2160p, making the pixel density come to 427ppi. Based on the IPS LCD technology that has capacitive touch abilities and 16 million colours. The display is on a class leading level, some claim it is better than the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which is impressive given Apple is known for the quality of their display. Powered by Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 659 which is an Octa-Core processor and the version available in Pakistan has the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage space. With a Mali-T830 MP2 from ARM for the graphic renderings. In the benchmark tests, it has actually scored better than the similarly configured Honor 7X.

Cameras on the Honor 9 Lite

Not particularly common the way the lenses have been set up the same for the front and back camera on this phone. Both being a combination of a 13MP and 2MP, with the front 13MP having a wider aperture for low light selfies. The main camera has more shooting modes. The dual-lens setup allows for the portrait mode shots, with the background blurred out. Packing Huawei's Aperture mode allows the user to adjust the amount of blur later on as well giving one maximum control over their image. Shooting modes include Professional and Panorama, as well as filters and HDR. The video quality is recorded at 1080p on both sides but is limited to 720p if you have the beauty filter on for the selfie camera.

Sensors, connectivity and battery

The fingerprint reader is on the back and is super fast. Other sensors include the Accelerometer, Compass, Gyro and Proximity. For connectivity, the smartphone has the Dual- SIM feature which has become quite common in most devices today. Also featuring WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and MicroUSB. The battery is a little underpowered but still can last a day of average usage at 3000mAh capacity. It is based on the Li-Polymer cells that have a longer overall life. 

A lower range phone that has the design and performance from a higher price point. At these specs, the gaming experience is a little slow but this phone is not designed for that market segment or with as much power. A good buy for a budget buyer.
