Intel Core i7 7700K processor

Released in the first quater of 2017, the Intel Core i7 7700K Kaby Lake was an upgrade on the Core i7 6700K. The differences were more an optimization than a marked difference from the previous processor. It is based on the same 14nm production process with a similar architecture to Skylake as well as the same core HyperThreaded configuration.

One of the main differences from the predecessor is the change in base and Turbo clock speeds. The Intel Core i7 7700K comes with a 4.2GHz base and 4.5GHz Turbo frequency. The other standout change is the Kaby Lake media engine. Which means that 4K media streaming was possible on the PC due to Intel enabled hardware level acceleration for encoding and decoding of 10-bit HEVC content.

All in all the upgrades are minimal with this processor, it was more part of the optimisation phase from Intel. There is a 6 - 7% increase in performance compared to its predecessor.

Comments

In general use one would barely notice the difference between the Core i7 7700K and the previous model. The change is more visible against some of the games people play. 

As with most processors from Intel, the Core i7 7700K is an expensive component to purchase.
