Lacoste the brand

Lacoste gets its name from the French tennis star Rene Lacoste. It was founded in 1933 by him and Andre Gillier. The brand's logo also originates from the founder as he was called 'the crocodile' for his doggedness on the court. Lacoste is responsible for reinventing and making the polo shirt famous; the brand originally sold it in tennis white, with time other colours were introduced. Aside from clothing, they produce footwear, eyewear, watches, towels and perfumes.

Lacoste has sponsored a lot of top athletes including Andy Roddick & Novak Djokovic.

Today Lacoste is owned by a Swiss holding company called Maus Frères. 

Lacoste Perfumes

A segment that was launched in 1984, Lacoste for Men was the first fragrance. Over the years they have produced many sporty themed scents with their crocodile logo emblazoned on them. The overall profile is youthful, summery and fun. A lot of their variety for women makes use of fruits and flowers as their main accords.

The women's perfumes that have done well include Lacoste Pour Femme, Lacoste Touch of Pink, Lacoste L.12.12 Pour Elle and Lacoste Love of Pink. The specific choice is of course very subjective but these are the ones that have sold well over the years, marking them as successful in a more broad sense.

Lacoste produces their range in a tie with Procter & Gamble, the consumer goods conglomerate.
