Description

Mattress maintenance

Just the material a mattress is made from means it is susceptible to germs and bugs. In 2002 a Norweigian study found that foam mattresses are 4 to 8 times more likely to host dust mite faeces in comparison to spring mattresses. Even a box spring mattress gathers dirt over time, there is natural perspiration during the course of the night. This is why older mattresses also get a yellow tinge. Bed bugs are another common issue with mattresses.

Why a mattress cover

Mattresses can be vacuumed and cleaned but that only removes a certain kind of dirt. For a better cleanse things need to be washed and if you have ever wet a mattress you know that that is not the best option. Drying one properly would take long, not drying it properly means there could be an issue of mould growing inside it. To make it easier mattress covers have been in use for decades. The simpler versions are made of natural fabrics, although better than not having one these are less effective than the synthetic versions. The synthetic protector doesn't absorb water so essentially making the mattress water-resistant. Mattress protectors are recommended for people who are prone to allergic reactions, especially dust mites. The mites produce waste that irritates the airways of such people.

Bed bugs

If the mattress already has bed bugs, it can be sealed into the full cover that is closed with a zip. It should not be opened for a year so the bugs and their eggs are dead. If opened earlier the infestation might come back and be worse as the bugs have built up numbers inside.

A useful layer for one's mattress, especially if there are kids in the house. Working well to keep your environment more hygienic and healthy. Mattress protectors are available at relatively low prices, making them more easily accessible.
