The taste of our local cuisine comes from the essential spices such as green and red chilli, Turmeric powder, Chakki flour, Arwi leaves, peas, peanuts and salt. The foundation of the nimko is the dough mixed in with the spices that are then thoroughly deep-fried with a generous helping of peanuts, peas and Arwi leaves.

Types of Nimko

There are a variety of versions of nimko that include a mixed bag of nimco, dal, namak paray and khewra. The product is known as Karachi Nimko and they have a large wholesale production house now to meet the demand of their customers. 

The most known product by Nimco is the Crunchy Mix which is the standard 200 grams packaging. The rest of the Nimco line is also 200 grams and has a cheap price point making them a quick and easy to buy a snack. Lentils known as Dal in Pakistan are a nutritious source of protein Dal Moth, Channa and Moong can help settle a hunger pang during long road trips while also being a great source of energy.  

Entertaining guests for tea is part of our national culture, the Nimco's Dahi Boondi is a favourite for tea trolly snacks. The deep-fried pieces will absorb hot water when soaked for half an hour to an hour. When drained they will be become sponge-like and can be mixed in with yoghurt as a light snack or a side dish for dinner. Other snacks by Nimco include Bareek Sev and Bhel Puri that also go well with yoghurt and tangy sauces like Imli or Plumb.   

The salty and sweet Chewra and Namak Paray are served with tea at any time of the day or evening. The Chana Chili, Mota Sev and Mix Nimco show the variety in the nimko recipe.  The classic Spicy Peanuts can also be bought separately without the other deep-fried flour pieces along with Chaat Papri that is usually only used as a garnish on nimko dishes.
