Description
Nokia was the leading brand when it came to mobiles, for a good two decades. Now it is among the many brands that produce Android-based smartphones, the Nokia 5.3 is such a model as well. With a simple design and rounded edges, this device is similar to most other options today. The bezels are narrow, except for the lower one which has the brand name written on it. There is a small notch for the selfie camera.
Nokia 5.3 Internals and OS
This smartphone is built around an 11nm chipset, the Snapdragon 665 from Qualcomm, one of the best chip-related brands in the market. The Snapdragon 665 is an octa-core processor, with four cores at a clock speed of 2.0GHz and another four at a speed of 1.8GHz. For graphics, there is the Adreno 610 integrated into this.
These two chips combined with the 4GB of RAM allows this device to handle some gaming. They may have to be played at lower settings though as this device was not designed with gaming in mind. The storage is at 64GB and in case more space is needed one can add on another 512GB via a microSD card.
The OS is Android 10 and can be updated to Android 11. This is a Machine Learning able system, meaning it can learn a user's patterns over time and reflect an optimised performance. Making the user experience as peak as possible. The Nokia 5.3 does not add a User Interface layer on top and makes use of bare Android for their device.
Display and Camera
With a 6.55 inch display, this device has quite a bit of viewing real estate. The resolution is 720 x 1600pixels meaning you can enjoy your HD content on this device with ease. At this resolution and size, the pixel density comes to 268 pixels per inch. Based on IPS LCD technology this display is protected by an unspecified edition of Corning's Gorilla Glass.
One of the major uses of the display is working as a viewfinder for the camera systems. The main camera module is a quad-sensor set-up, with the primary sensor at 13MP f/1.8 and shoots a bit wide. For ultrawide shots, there is a 5MP sensor, a 2MP one for macro shots and another 2MP sensor for depth sensing which helps add more layers to your images.
On the front there is the selfie camera, which is an 8MP lens and shoots similar to a 26mm lens; this helps get better group selfies. Both sides can shoot video at 1080p with a frame rate of 30fps. Shooting modes include panorama and HDR for the main module, and the selfie camera can also shoot HDR.
Sensors, Connectivity and Battery
There are four sensors to provide necessary feedback to the device's software for functionality. These include the accelerometer, a compass, a gyro and a proximity sensor. The fifth is a fingerprint reader but the main function related to this is unlocking the Nokia 5.3 faster than having to input a code. This is mounted onto the rear for quick and easy access for your index finger.
Connectivity options include a full range as well, this device has WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio, NFC, Dual SIM and Data. For porting one can make use of a USB Type-C reversible or for audio there is the 3.5mm audio jack.
To power this device there is a 4000mAh Li-polymer cell that can easily last your day of usage and does well for streaming and such too.
Comments
This device comes in three colours, Cyan, Sand and Charcoal. Given the specs and components, it is a decent purchase for its mid-range price. The Nokia 5.3 is also built sturdy which is very important as one tends to drop their device once in a while.
