Oppo Reno 2

A famous smartphone brand, Oppo is known for its affordable yet efficient devices. Oppo has also introduced features that they pioneered. This includes a motorized camera lens and the beauty filter.

Oppo belongs to the BKK Electronics Corporation which also owns Realme, OnePlus and Vivo.

In their catalogue Oppo has a lot of smartphones which have a focus on the camera, the Reno 2 is also such a model.

The Oppo Reno 2 cameras 

Just like the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom the Reno 2 has a shark fin pop-up selfie camera. With the lens at 16MP with an aperture of f/2.0. For the rear, there is a quad-lens camera system in which they have included a 48MP primary sensor with 20x digital zoom combined with optical. There's a 13MP telephoto camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The fourth sensor on the Reno 2 is a 2MP depth sensor. As is the norm with most Oppo smartphones, the Reno 2 is also built with the camera as a central feature. The camera app has a good degree of scene recognition, ample shooting modes and good edge recognition for selfies. 

Internals and OS

The components are also powerful with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G as the central unit powering the phone. With 8GB RAM that is definitely from a higher spec range, making it more than enough to help the processor tasks. Given this amount RAM, the multitasking works great. For graphics, there is the Adreno 618. The built-in storage is at 256GB, which is more than ample and yet there is the option to add another 256GB via a microSD card in one of the SIM slots. The OS powered by this hardware is the Oppo ColorOS 6.1, which is layered onto an Android 9 Pie base. This version of the Android base is Machine Learning able, meaning that over time it will learn the patterns of the user and become faster at performance. The extra layer of Oppo's User Interface enables users to have better customisations that Android doesn't offer on its own, making for a better overall experience.

Display

The display comes to a large 6.5-inch screen bringing the screen-to-body ratio to 93.1%. Based on the AMOLED technology that is vibrant and high contrast. The resolution is Full HD at 1080x2400pixels with the pixels per inch coming to 405. The brightness level is ample for the outdoors as well and the Reno 2 has the option for two colour modes, Vivid and Gentle. The user can also change the colour temperature of the display to put a lesser strain on their eyes. 

Connectivity, sensors and battery

The Oppo Reno 2 has the full range for connectivity, including Wifi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and a USB Type-C connector. With an extra feature of UBS On-The-Go, that allows the phone to be a host to external flash drives, essentially removing the need for a computer to access files from it. For sensors, there is an in-display fingerprint reader that works fast to unlock the device. Aside from that, there are the Gyro, Proximity, Accelerometer and Magnetometer sensors. Packed with a 4000mAh battery that is based on a Li-Polymer cell, these have a better overall life and also can be shaped into a slimmer form factor. The battery also has compatibility for their proprietary fast charging called VOOC Flash Charge. 

Oppo developed the Reno 2 in two colours, Ocean Blue and Luminous Black. The Ocean Blue version has a gradient-like finish to it. The Reno 2 is packed with good features, with some specs that are from a slightly better class. The Oppo Reno 2 is available at the top end of the mid-range price point.
