Description

Philips

Philips has been in the bulb market since 1891. In the LED bulb market for well over a decade making it a giant of the lighting industry. With a few different power ratings for LED bulbs depending on the size of your space. Philips LED bulbs have 2 different hues currently which are 'Warm White' and 'Cool Day Light'. One is a little more yellow to put it simply and would be lower on the colour-temperature based Kelvin rating scale.

Why LED bulbs are better

Electricity usage has been costly and coming up with technology that is efficient or uses lesser amounts has been a target of most electronics companies. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, LED bulbs consume about 10% the electricity of other bulbs with the same output of light. Some have more than one LED built into them to be able to produce enough light. LEDs work with Direct Current (DC) and most power on the grid is Alternating Current (AC), so the bulbs have internal circuits that convert AC to DC. These circuits have rectifiers, capacitors and may have other active electronic components that permit the lamp to be dimmed. Commercially available LED lamps have an efficiency of 200 Lumens per watt (Lm/W); though some brands may claim more. LED bulbs also reach full brightness immediately without warm-up delay like incandescent bulbs and switching them on and off often doesn't affect their overall life.

Smart LED bulbs and the future

Philips also has another line for the LED bulbs under Philips HUE that are 'Smart Bulbs', allowing you to connect with them through a smartphone and control brightness and temperature. These can even be connected to devices like Amazon Echo and Google Home to change settings with voice command. The overall LED lamp market is projected to grow by more than twelve-fold over the next decade. Going from $2 billion in the beginning of 2014 to $25 billion in 2023, this shows how well a product is working for the lumination of our lives. As of 2012, Philips was the largest manufacturer of lighting in the world as measured by applicable revenues.
