A company that is responsible for the modern HDD hard drive we know, Seagate was behind the first 5.25-inch hard disk drive. Established in 1978, it was responsible for most of the computer market in the 1980s. Over time Seagate expanded their technological expertise by buying out competitors.

They also own LaCie, another brand that produces computer memory products.

The brand has a focus on hard drive storage devices and does not produce other kinds of memory products. Being one of the originals they have made deals with brands such as Sony and Microsoft, for their gaming consoles. Producing optimised drives that work with the PlayStation and the Xbox, this may not seem like much of an edge but licensed products tend to perform better.

Aside from this Seagate products are found in a lot of the top laptop brand. One can also purchase the hard drives to upgrade existing devices and opt for HDDs or SSDs. The storage space varies a lot so one can find something from the lower end such as 500Gn up to 4TB depending on their needs and also of course the specific line.

The labels Seagate has are SkyHawk, FireCuda and IronWolf. All three of these are optimised for a different kind of usage, the Skyhawk range is for surveillance equipment, FireCuda are the range of gamer drives and IronWolf are the drives made for drives shared over a network. There is also the Barracuda range which is the portable range of backup devices as well as PC upgrades. It comes in possible ginormous storage spaces such as 14TB; for an average user that would be a lifetime of work. 

Seagate also makes very small-sized drives that one can use with their smartphone or tablet and has the relevant porting connectors as well. This is under the Ultra Touch label.

Comments

There are two main competitors in the storage device market, Seagate is one of them and the other is Western Digital. Seagate devices are high quality with a great build and performance as well, the design is sleek too.

The price of Seagate hard drives is nominal, with the SSDs costing more as that is a faster technology for higher transfer rates. The personal cloud servers would cost a lot more.
