A well-known shampoo brand for people who have dandruff. It has been shown to be more effective compared to Head & Shoulders and other competitors. The active ingredient in Selsun Blue Shampoo is 1% slenium sulfide, this is also where the shampoo gets its name. The word Selsun is a portmanteau of 'sel' from selenium and 'su' from sulfide, with an 'n' added at the end.

There are different versions that can be used for different kinds of hair, for instance, there is Selsun Blue Natural to Oily or Selsun Blue Moisturising. One can choose the specific one that would suit their hair quality. There are other versions of Selsun Blue shampoo that have salicylic acid and botanicals as their active ingredients as well. 

Selenium sulfide shows anti-fungal properties, relieves itching and flaking of the scalp. It has also been used to treat tinea versicolor, a skin-related fungal infection.

The Selsun Blue brand was originated by Abbott Laboratories and bought by Chattem in 2002. Later as Chattem was bought by Sanofi, Selsun Blue is now owned by Sanofi.
