Sriracha Sauce

Sriracha sauce

A type of hot sauce that is believed to originate from Sri Racha in Thailand. Created by Thanom Chakkapak in the 1930s; her recipe is now sold under the brand name 'Sriraja Panich'. A more famous brand today is based in the USA, the Huy Fong Sriracha sauce; it has a well recognized red bottle, with a green cap and a rooster depicted on it.

Sriracha is made from red jalapenos, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt. The Thai versions of sriracha sauce are generally sweeter in comparison to others and also less viscous. This may be due to the fact that other brands add in xanthan gum to keep the ingredients mixed together.

The sriracha sauce profile

The sauce itself has a hot and sweet-spicy flavour along with garlic. It is rated at 1,000-2,500 on the Scoville scale. 

Sriracha can be eaten with almost anything if one wants. People add it to their soups, ramen, dips, burritos, hotdogs and everything else. Due to the flavour, it is a versatile sauce. Many recipes list the sauce as an important ingredient.

People eat sriracha sauce with their desi cuisine as well, again a matter of personal choice when it comes to condiments. The flavour is so liked that there have even been sriracha flavoured lollipops and other such items created over time.

Many different brands produce sriracha sauce which is why the prices also vary, some are nominally priced while others may cost a bit more.
