The material used most often for studio background sheets is the 100% cotton or muslin fabric as it is lightweight and easily rolled like a window blind. The frame used to hold up the sheets is strong but not too heavy making it easy to install and handle. Photography backdrops are not limited to the fabric as they can also use rolls of paper, canvas, vinyl and even velvet material as these add different light reflections and textures to the photos. 

Types of Backgrounds

There are even backdrop sheets with various solid colours, hand-painted designs, air-brush painted according to the client or artists project. These backgrounds make it easy to set up the shoot and save time in ensuring quality photographs are taken in the studio. Backdrops can be bought in the standard size of 6 or 7 feet long that is perfect for a ¾-length portrait photoshoot. When looking to shoot full-body photographs or large groups a 9 to 10 feet wide is essential is filling the background.
