An Austrian producer of various glass products as well as a wing that has machining tools that goes by Tyrolit. Founded in 1859 by Daniel Swarovski, the brand is still a family-run organization. The company is split into two parts, one is the crystal business and the other is Swarovski Optik which produces optical instruments such as telescopes, telescopic sights for rifles and binoculars. The Swarovski Crystal arm produces glass sculptures, miniature figurines, jewellery, rhinestones, home decor and chandeliers.

Swarovski collaborates with many known designers to create jewellery collections. These include Zaha Hadid, Viktor & Rolf, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Anna Della Russo, Jason Wu and more. The brand has also furnished many movie stars with zirconium cut as diamonds for their roles. This list includes a few of the Bond films, Titanic, Black Swan and many more. Aside from this many artists have worn their crystals on the stage for theatre, music tours and fashion shows.

Swarovski Crystals

These crystals are made from a mix of quartz sand, potash, soda and other ingredients that are mixed at high temperatures. The exact proportions of this mix is a brand secret. Swarovski has stopped using lead for their crystals since 2012. The crystals are cut and highly polished to give them the sheen needed.

Swarovski also coats various crystals with a range of specialized metallic coatings. This gives them an extra edge to make them more like real stones. For example, the coating known as Aurora Borealis gives the surface a rainbow spectrum. With some items only certain parts are coated with others there is a double coating.

Many brands purchase Swarovski crystals and add them into their products, this includes items such as watches and clothes.
