A game that started as a parlour game, developed by tennis players who could not play out in the cold. Later tablet tennis became an Olympic sport.

The table is divided by the net; a table tennis net is 6 inches in height and runs across the table. The net must have a white or pale yellow strip along the top so it is easy to see. The mesh below is usually a dark colour with green or blue being a common option.

A table tennis net should be taut, keeping it all at an even level. If it is not, the centre dips somewhat; which is not right. The sides are held up by small pillars which clamp onto the table. The older tables have metal ones, today a lot have plastic ones.
