Tecno Pova 2

Tecno produces a lot of smartphones that are built on the Android platform and are in the affordable range. The Pova 2 is also such an option, it has a design that is slim with rounded edges. The rear has a line running along the body to one side and there is a brushed finish that lets light play on it. Colour options include silver, black and blue. The camera bump is neatly done and on the front, the selfie camera is set into a small punch hole in the display.

Running Android 11 with HiOS 7.6, a combo that makes for a smooth system. The Android 11 base means that this device has Machine Learning built into it, a feature that allows it to optimise at a minute level and pace up performance as it learns the user's pattern. The HiOS 7.6 user interface allows for a lot more customisation so users can personalise their experience.

Processing is handled by the MediaTek Helio G85, a chipset made using the 12nm method. It has an octa-core architecture, with 2 cores putting out clock speeds of 2.0GHz and the remaining 6 doing 1.8GHz. Integrated into this is the Mali G52 MC2, a graphics processor that takes on the visual load. For tasking that supports both these processors is 6GB of RAM, which is more than ample for this smartphone to handle multitasking and mid-level gaming too.

Storage on this device is at 128GB and in case that seems like it is less one can use a microSD card and add another 128GB. 

Display and cameras

The screen size on the Tecno Pova 2 is 6.9 inches, which is quite a bit of viewing space. It is based on an IPS LCD and has a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels, this brings the pixel density to 389 pixels per inch. Refreshing on this display is at 60Hz and the touch sampling rate is 180Hz. All these specs combined let one enjoy smooth graphics that are crisp too.

A quad-camera setup means one can get a good variation of shots from this smartphone. The main sensor is at 48MP and all the others are 2MP. These work for wide, macro and also add depth to the shots. On the front, the selfie camera is at 8MP so one gets good quality on this end too. Video on the main side can either be 1440p or 1080p and the front side also shoots 1080p.

Other features

With a complete set of wireless standards that include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio DualSIM with Data up to 4G LTE. It does however lack NFC which is the channel used for contactless payment systems. For porting one has the USB Type-C and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Tecno Pova 2 also has a range of sensors that give feedback for the apps to function.

The sensors include an accelerometer, a compass, a gyro and a proximity sensor. With a fingerprint reader that is mounted on the rear for quick unlocking. 

Powering all this is a massive 7000mAh battery, this can easily give one more than a day's worth of usage. It also has the Fast Charging feature so one can top up quicker if they are in a rush.

A mid-range device, the Tecno Pova 2 is good for someone who has a smaller budget in mind but wants good value as far as features are concerned.
