Pros & Cons

  • Powerful cameras

  • AMOLED display

  • 8nm Snapdragon processor

  • 8GB RAM

  • No waterproof

Vivo has a wide range of options available from the lower ranges to the top. The Vivo V12e is towards the higher end of the mid-range, this makes it a relatively more costly smartphone. The Vivo brand is a sister brand to Oppo, Realme and OnePlus, all of which are owned by BBK Electronics.

The design of this device is similar to most smartphones today, with a minimal look, buttons on the side and it has a very small notch for the selfie camera. Made with DualSIM abilities, this device can house two numbers, giving users convenient access in one place.

Vivo V21e OS and internals

The base layer in this device is Android 11, a system that has Machine Learning so it can optimise all functions to suit the individual using it. Onto this base, Vivo has given the V21e their own user interface, FunTouch OS 11.1. This lets you customise a lot of details regarding your device, the lock screen can be changed up from how your device acts when you use the fingerprint reader to what happens when it is attached to a charging cable.

Other customisations are related to icons, animations, the home screen and the drop-down menu. There is also an Ultra Game Mode so your device is geared to take on the game processing with better performance. There is also a game assistant and in-game sidebar.

The processor at the heart of this device is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 720G that was made using the 8nm method. A processor that is an Octa-core and puts out a clock speed of 2.3GHz. The Adreno 618 is integrated into this processor as the graphics card, this helps take on the visual load. This GPU does a good job of the visual recreation of games, providing a near seamless experience.

Aiding these two chips is 8GB of RAM, an ample amount for most task execution needs. With 128GB of storage space, you also have ample room to keep your media, games and more. In case you feel the need for more, the Vivo V21e has a slot for a microSDXC card as well; allowing you to expand your storage.

Display and cameras

A good display is also quite the basic need to enjoy your games and media, this smartphone has an AMOLED based display which makes for a bright screen. The resolution is 1080 x 2400 pixels and the size of the display is 6.44 inches; these two specs combined bring the pixel density to 409 pixels per inch.

The main camera has a triple-lens setup, with the first at 64MP f/1.9, a secondary at 8MP f/2.2 for ultrawide shots and the final one is 2MP f/2.4 for macro shots. The ultrawide shots are similar to a 16mm lens, so one gets quite a bit of area covered in their shots. The camera app allows for HDR, pano, phase detection, touch focus and more. Video on this main side can be shot at 4K or 1080p with a frame rate of 30fps and with the 1080p there is also the option of 60fps.

The selfie camera is also a high spec, at 44MP f/2.0. This gives one a lot of clarity for their shots. The selfie camera can also shoot 4K and 1080p at a frame rate of 30fps. This lets one get great video on this side as well.

Connectivity, sensors and the battery

The Vivo V21e comes with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and Data till 4G. The wired connectivity is achieved via a USB Type-C 2.0 or a 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors for crucial feedback include an accelerometer, a compass, a gyro and a proximity sensor. There is also a fingerprint reader that is embedded into the display, this makes for super convenient unlocking.

There is a 4000mAh battery that powers this device, a decent capacity that can easily see you through a day. There is also the Fast Charging feature so one can top up faster; Vivo claims that the device can top up to 66% in 30 minutes.

The colour options of this smartphone include Roman Black and Diamond Flare.

The Vivo V21e is available for a price that is at the top end of a mid-range. That makes it relatively costly, but the specs of this device are quite powerful. The only thing that is lacking really, is that there is no waterproofing.
