Watercolour paint

A type of paint that uses water as the solvent, watercolour paint is one of the main types of paint used by artists. The paint itself is made with a basic number of ingredients with the main part being the pigment which is in particle form. This paint is available in tubes or pans. 

Today watercolour paints have gotten a lot better due to improvements in organic chemistry. There is more variety in colour, better saturation and improved permanence.

The colour range includes almost every shade one can imagine. There are variations in shades between different brands, the same colour from Pelikan and Winsor & Newton may differ in the shade when observed closely.

Watercolour paint is used in various kinds of work from miniature to gouache, the latter of which is applied in thicker layers making it more opaque. For larger works it is common to see a watercolour 'wash', this method needs a lot of flow and takes a lot more practice to get right; this classic technique also does not make use of any white paint.
