Xiaomi Poco F3

Xiaomi has lines that cater to a different segment, with Poco the initial aim was to provide a mid-range line that is more accessible. Now Poco has some more serious contenders in a higher range too. The Xiaomi Poco F3 is one of these options and has good features that can be used by gamers as well as content creators. It is also great for just anyone who needs a fast performing smartphone for their regular tasks.

Xiaomi Poco F3 internals and OS

The octa-core Snapdragon 870 from Qualcomm is what gives this device its speed performance. It is a chip that was made using the 7nm method, packing it quite densely. This also has the Adreno 650  integrated GPU that takes on the visual load. This GPU is quite powerful and has a performance that people compare to desktop graphics cards, the difference being that computer GPUs have cooling systems that allow a more resilient performance.

The options for RAM can be 6GB or 8GB, the former has 128GB of storage space while the latter comes with 256GB. The storage standards adhere to UFS 3.1, making the transfer rates a lot quicker which allows for overall streamlining.

Xiaomi devices make use of the Android platform and the Poco F3 has version 11 installed as the base layer. The layer on top is their proprietary MIUI 12, a user interface that allows you to customise the feel of your digital space to the exact degree you want. This includes drawers, icons, animations and more.

Cameras and display

For the main camera module, there is a triple sensor array. The main sensor is at 48MP f/1.8 and shoots a bit wider shots, similar to a 26mm. The second sensor is 8MP f/2.2 and is used for the ultrawide shots; the last sensor is a 5MP f/2.4 that shoots the macro shots. This setup allows for various modes such as HDR, Pano, Night, Bokeh and more.

Selfies are shot on the 20 MP f/2.5, which can also shoot some of the similar modes as the main side. Video via the selfie camera is shot at either 1080p with a frame rate of 30fps or 720p with a frame rate of 120fps. The main side has more powerful options, starting at 4K with a 30fps frame rate and 1080p that has a lot more options with frame rate. The 1080p on the main side can be shot at 30, 60, 120, 240 or 960fps. This side also features gyro-EIS so your shots are not shakey in case you are walking or in a vehicle.

One of the great features of the Xiaomi Poco F3 is its AMOLED display. At 6.67 inches it is large, with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The pixel density is at 395 pixels per inch with the given size and resolution. With support for HDR10+ and a brightness of 1300 nits, this display packs quite a bit of power. The refresh rate is also high, at 120Hz. All this combined makes for a great display that can also support almost all the games of the era.

Connectivity, sensors and battery

There are a bunch of wireless modules, including WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio, and Data up to 5G. For wired connectivity one has the USB Type-C 2.0 port, this also has the ability to make use of USB On-the-Go. A feature that allows users to use the Poco F3 as a docking device for flash drives.

Sensors on this smartphone include an accelerometer, a compass, a gyro, a proximity sensor and a colour spectrum sensor as well. A fingerprint reader is also mounted onto the side, so you can unlock the device quickly without having to put in a pin number.

All these systems get power from a 4520mAh battery which is based on a li-polymer tech. With Quick Charge 3+ and Power Delivery 3.0, this device is claimed to be at a full charge within 52 minutes.
