Material

Usually worn with shalwar kameez, the chappal is traditionally made out of pure leather sewn onto a rubber tyre sole. Modern ones are sewn onto pure leather soles.

Shape

These chappals come in various shapes, with popular ones being the narrow shape, broad shape, Panjidar, T-shape, slipper and sandal.

Styles

They come in plain and elegant styles as well as in colourful variety, boasting intricate work in golden and silver threads. In the past few years, the Peshawari sandal has gained so much popularity amongst youngsters that pairing it with jeans has become the latest trend now.

Durability

The durability of these chappals depends on how many times it has been sewn. Available in single, double and triple gears, the chappal with the most durability is called the triple gear sandals, which refers to it being sewn thrice to ensure longevity and durability.

Global Recognition

The Peshawari chappal gained global recognition when the famous English fashion designer Sir Paul Smith replicated the sandals as his own without giving credit and sold them for a staggering £300, that is thirty times more than the cost of these chappals in Pakistan even if bought from the most expensive stores! This sparked massive outrage amongst Pakistanis all around the world and as a result, the description of the sandals on Sir Paul's website was changed to "inspired by the Peshawari Chappal".

Popularity Amongst Women

These chappals have gained popularity amongst women also and many fashion houses in Pakistan such as Chapter 13 and Mochari have started making Peshawari sandals for women too.
