These systems carry the age-old and dated Intel central processing unit (CPU) called Pentium. This processor is compatible with the core 1-series. You can run an i3 on this computer but it will not give you speed and multitasking as compared to i5 or an i7. The advantage of using an i3 core with Optiplex 780 is that the system will not heat up making it long-lasting as a basic computing setup at an extremely cheap price as compared to the latest CPUs on the market.

The Intel vPro Technology with which the Optiplex 780 is built has Core 2 Duo with a clocking of 3 GHz that is something close to a base model smartphone. It will be able to seamless switch from an application like web-browsing tabs, store and transfer data effortlessly but over time with extensive use will become very slow. The Dual-Core is 64-bit with a data bus speed 1333 MHz.

These specifications can be updated with time according to your personal needs by adding additional hard drives and memory.  The standard 4 GB can be upgraded to a maximum of 16 GB giving the computer a long-lasting processing life without ugly tearing or freezing during important tasks. There are other Optiplex models that have stronger and more powerful processing and advanced hardware. It also has the option of installing AMD CPUs.

Highly compatible with third-party mobile devices, the CPU has multiple slots to connect keyboard, mouse, multiple monitors and USB that make it effective as a customizable work station.
