Jean Paul Gaultier, a self-taught fashion designer, was known as the unconventional persona of the fashion world. Having clothed the rich and famous like Madonna, he made a name that is known to many. Along with the fashion lines, Gaultier also introduced fragrances. The first of which is the Classique line for women, launched in 1993 created by the master perfumer Jacques Cavallier.

The first men's line Le Male was released in 1995, with the famous Francis Kurkdijan as the creator and it was something that changed how male scents were perceived. At the time all the male scents were dark and deep masculine, Le Male was light and was more in line with the 90s metrosexual style. It was even worn by women at times.

Both the Classique and Le Male have many iterations that were successful and the original versions are the flagship fragrances from Jean Paul Gaultier. The Scandal line for women also did really well. Other notable perfumers who have collaborated with the brand include Sonia Constant, Olivier Cresp, Christophe Raynaud, Aurelien Guichard, 

Overall the quality is high, with a good level of sillage and longevity. The sents are diverse, with some spicy and other fruity. One finds fresh spicy and greens with hints of amber. There are white flowers and softer spice for women.

Among the collection there is a lot of variation, so one can get something that they like. The prices for Jean Paul Gaultier perfumes and colognes are not very high, just above an affordable range, which means they are quality but accessible; a high-value purchase.
