Description

DJI Mavic 2 Pro

Another drone from the market leader in commercial drones. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is designed with a low drag aerodynamic body which helps it fly better, meaning it also handles well. It can reach up to 76.76kph of speed, which is super fast for something this size. With omnidirectional obstacle avoidance as well, this drone is a compact size which can be fit into a backpack easily.

The Mavic 2 Pro can fly for 31 minutes.

Gimbal camera system

The main component with the Mavic 2 Pro is the gimbal camera system, it has been developed by one of the top-end camera brands, Hasselblad. It is the L1D-20c and is made with Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) technology that lets you capture 20MP aerial shots with great clarity. The 1" CMOS sensor means you can make use of the large ISO range of 3200 to 12,800.

This camera also supports the 10-bit Dlog-M colour profile and 4K 10-bit HDR video capture. Dlog-M gives you over 1 billion colours. The aperture being adjustable between f/2.8 to f/11 lets you work with low light or even in environments with more light.

Other key features

This drone features the OcuSync 2.0 system that allows you to view a high-quality live feed on your smartphone as you fly your drone. It can send you a 1080p feed up to 8km away. This feature even lets you share and save your footage without having to download it from the drone.

The Mavic Pro 2 can sense obstacles in every direction, including up and down too. Inside is 8GB of onboard storage, which is less but still can be used for shorter videos or for images.

Making use of a better codec for the 4K video; the H.265/HEVC. This is a more advanced form of compression in comparison to the H.264/AVC and has 50% more information; resulting in better quality video which has more details. Another improvement is the HyperLight Noise Reduction, this feature can help with low-light images by reproducing them with reduced noise.

Shooting modes

These modes that drones come with make shooting a lot easier as the drone can do work which would be tough manually. The first is POI (Point of Interest), this combines vision and GPS distance measurement abilities to shoot a specific area or subject you have circled out. Waypoint 2.0 allows you to set waypoints by tapping them into the app so there is a flight path set. This can be saved for your next flight too.

There is Asteroid mode which makes the drone fly down quick from a height as it spins in on the subject. Another one is the Boomerang mode which again centres onto a subject flying around it in an elliptical pattern until it comes back to its starting point.

Panorama has support for Sphere, 180°, Horizontal and Vertical modes.

Active tracking

Similar to the older feature that can follow a subject, but this time with a twist. There is Trajectory Prediction, which is an algorithm that can maintain tracking even if the subject is temporarily blocked by an object. There is also High-Speed Tracking which can follow fast-moving subjects.

If you plan a flight path ahead, the 3D mapping will make it easier for the drone to avoid obstacles in its path, shooting the target without interruption.

Comments

DJI has made this drone a lot more quiet than the models before it, by combining FOC sinusoidal drive ESCs and low-noise propellers.

Among the drones in its class, the Mavic 2 Pro is one of the top contenders. The price is from a higher-end, but all the features and versatility compensate for your spending.
