Samsung has a host of options that one can choose from, this includes some that are also in a more accessible range. The A series from the brand is their mid-tier device range. The Samsung Galaxy A22 is such an option as well.

Samsung Galaxy A22 internals and OS

Being a mid-tier device the Galaxy A22 has a MediaTek processor, namely the Helio G80 that was made using the 12nm method. This processor has an integrated GPU, the Mali-G57 MC2 which is a mid-range graphics card. For storage, there is 128GB of space and in case that feels like it is less you can add on up to 1TB more via a microSD card. Tasking is handled by the 4GB of RAM or the more upscale option of 6GB.

The base OS is Android 11, with OneUI Core 3.1 layered onto it. Android 11 has Machine Learning abilities so your device can optimise little things, which add together for you to have a more streamlined experience overall. This means that after a few weeks of usage the device is primed for you as it has studied your patterns. The OneUI Core 3.1 layer has the advantage of more features which bare Android lacks.

Features of OneUI Core 3.1 include things such as custom skin and one can turn off the screen by double-tapping in an empty spot on the home screen. Aside from this, there are customisations with icons and animations which let you personalise the feel of your device to suit your preferences.

Camera and display

The main camera module is a quad sensor set up. The primary sensor is at 48MP f/1.8 and shoots a bit wide, featuring Optical Image Stabilization. With the secondary at 8MP f/2.2 for the ultrawide shots. The third and fourth are both 2MP F/2.4 sensors that are for depth sensing and macro shots. Combined with the app these sensors allow for various shooting modes such as Pano, Bokeh and HDR.

On the front there is a 13MP f/2.2 camera that shoots a bit wide too, this helps get more into your selfie. Video on both sides is shot at 1080p with a frame rate of 30fps.

For the display, you get a 6.4 inch display that is based on Super AMOLED technology, which makes for a crisp and bright display. The resolution is 720 x 1600 pixels, which is just shy of FullHD. Pixel density at this size and with these pixels comes to 274 pixels per inch. The display has a refresh rate of 90Hz, all these variables come together for a good display. It can also handle a decent amount of gaming. Protection for the display is managed by Gorilla Glass 5.

Sensors, connectivity and the rest

Feedback sensors are needed for the device to run apps, the Samsung Galaxy A22 has an accelerometer, a compass and a proximity sensor. There is another, the sensor for fingerprint reading, which is mounted onto the side for quick access to unlock.

Connectivity channels include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and Data up to 4G. Physical connections are made via the USB Type-C 2.0 and this device retains the 3.5mm audio jack. One can also make use of the DualSIM abilities.

All the systems are powered by a 5000mAh battery, which is quite large and would easily see you through an average day. It also features Fast Charging so one can top up in a shorter period of time.

Overall a good device for the money, the Samsung Galaxy A22 has all the needed functions to be a part of today's digital sphere. It does however lack any waterproofing, a convenient feature if present.
