On the outside, the Xiaomi Redmi Go is a small and plain-looking phone with a plastic body but thanks to its nicely curved rear, the phone feels expensive and comes without any signs of cost-cutting. You will find the power and volume buttons on the right, a Micro-USB port and a speaker grille on the bottom and a 3.5mm headphones socket on the top. The phone is pretty compact and can be easily held and used in one hand. It is a breath of fresh air for people who don't appreciate how big and unwieldy modern-day smartphones have become.

Display & Design

Its display is a 5 inch 16:9 screen with capacitive Android buttons below it, all enclosed in thick borders. This is a bit disappointing as most budget phones have already moved to 18:9 or taller screens and even come integrated with notches. Another downside is the capacitive buttons that aren't backlit. This makes it difficult to find them in the dark and involves a bit of fumbling. The broad bezels on top and bottom are not the most attractive thing in a phone these days but are acceptable in the given price point. Colour options to choose from are Black and Blue.

Performance & Platform 

Running on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) the Xiaomi Redmi Go uses a Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425 (28 nm) Chipset and Adreno 308 GPU. This phone is good for basic use but not for gaming or heavy-duty tasks.

Cameras

The single rear camera has an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and supports autofocus. The 5-megapixel front camera has an f/2.2 aperture. You can shoot videos at a resolution of 1080p with both cameras. The cameras capture good quality pictures in the daytime but low-light photography isn't up to the mark.

RAM, Storage & Battery

Xiaomi Redmi Go features 8GB and 16 GB internal storage options with 1GB of RAM. You can expand the storage up to 128GB via a microSD card. The phone has hybrid dual-SIM slots; two trays on the left, one for a Nano-SIM and a microSD card, and the second for another Nano-SIM. This is commendable as it is a feature seen on most higher-priced models only. Redmi Go packs a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery that would last a day of average usage.

Connectivity & Sensors

Connectivity options include WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS, USB OTG. The phone features accelerometer and proximity sensors.
