Many leading companies are producing 4K DSLR cameras and also adding them to their smartphones. The tech giants like Canon, Sony, Nikon, GoPro etc are incorporating 4K technology into their DSLRs, action cameras, hand-held camcorders or quadcopters.

High-quality Imagery

Long gone are the days when photographers filmed only in Full HD video quality. When Full HD 1080P high definition video quality was introduced, it won a lot of praise for its fine results as well as clarity and became the industry standard for high definition videos. Full HD 1080p resolution consists of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the video quality was good, the results were fine until the photos or videos were zoomed-in on, the pixels just went haywire. Types of 4K Recording Formats

Currently, there are two types of 4K recording formats: UHD 4K (Ultra-High-Definition), and DCI 4K (Digital Cinema Initiatives).

UHD 4K vs DCI 4K

UHD 4K refers to any recording at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 in the aspect ratio of 16:9, while the DCI 4K has slightly more pixels at a resolution of 4096 x 2160, with an aspect ratio of 19:10. So technically, DCI 4K is the only true 4K format out there. 4K resolution is 3840 x 2160 pixels, that is why the 4K cameras deliver sharper and better image quality. Quadruple the number of pixels in comparison to 1080P, 4K cameras are able to capture the most intricate of details in significantly higher contrasts. 

Downside 

Some 4K cameras in the market also feature a dedicated microphone socket for even better audio. With all the good hype surrounding the 4K recording devices, one downside is the large space required for 4K videos. So it’s important to be prepared for the increased data rate and memory demands before investing in a 4K camera.
