One of the most recognised brands for women started in 1910 as a hat shop with Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel behind it. In subsequent years, it expanded into other areas of fashion pushing the boundaries. Chanel is one of the first brands to include pants for women and also use materials that were at the time used for men such as tweed and jersey. Known for inventing the women's wardrobe basic the 'little black dress' in 1926. Coco maintained creative control till her passing in 1971. Later, fashion icon Karl Lagerfield has also served as chief designer from 1982 till 2000. 

Chanel No. 5

After redefining women's fashion Chanel has also become one of the best perfume houses in the world. Soon after starting the fragrance line the fashion house produced Chanel No. 5, with Ernest Beaux as the scent creator behind it. The Chanel perfume No. 5 is one of the most famous fragrances in the market ever and is still considered one of the best perfumes available.  A very complex scent, as the request from Coco was that it smell like a composition rather than a single flower. Thus came about the intricate concoction of aldehydes and florals which include rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, lily of the valley and iris. Layered over a warm, woody base of vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla, amber and patchouli.

With fragrances that are designed to envoke sensations rather than just being nice smells. No. 5 has been a favourite of many from the years past such as Marylin Monroe to today's celebrities including Celine Deon, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Mendes.
