Producing luxury watches since 1848, Omega is another Swiss brand that is in the top tier of watchmakers. Omega was originally called La Generale Watch Co. and was founded by Loius Brandt. Over the years the brand grew and later after a couple of mergers ended up being under the Swatch Group, which owns many other high-end watch brands as well. Omega was the first watch on the moon in 1969 and has been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932. Omega watches have sold as some of the most expensive watches ever.

Some of the known wearers of Omega watches over the decades include Elvis, JFK, George Clooney, Buzz Aldrin, Mao Zedong, Cindy Crawford, Jaques Cousteau, Jeremy Clarkson, Tom Hanks, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mikhail Gorbachev and many more.

Omega watch lines

There are five main design lines of Omega watches. The Constellation is their flagship design, a leader to their pack. The rear case of the watch has the Geneva Observatory logo. This logo has small stars that people look at when purchasing an old watch to see the level of wear it has gone through.

Speedmaster is their watch that made it to space. The rear case has a hippocampus, a mythological creature, on it. There are special versions that have a print of the first step man took on the moon. The inclusion of the chronograph or timer is what made this a very useful watch. It was used by race car drivers, submariners, artillery battle groups, pilots and other such people who needed precise measurements of smaller time segments. The brand has received the Snoopy Award due to their Speedmaster watch. This is an award from NASA for private contractors and employees for outstanding achievements that help flight safety or mission success. This was awarded as the watch was used to time burners that made reentry safe for the crew and accuracy was a concern. The Omega Speedmaster delivered.

Another successful line from Omega is their Seamaster series which is also their longest-running line. This is the watch famously worn by James Bond, since 1995. It also has the hippocampus logo on the rear case. Typically this line of watches is water-resistant till 1200-meters, has luminescent hands, a unidirectional bezel, a blue, silver or black dial with orange accents and a helium release valve. Seamaster watches are what would be termed as diving watches.

As an alternative to their sporty options, the De Ville line has a more sophisticated look. This has a cleaner design face to keep it looking neat and bereft of any extra clutter. This has become their classy look despite initially being launched as a special edition of the Seamaster line. 

The Specialities line from Omega is similar to collector or special editions produced by the brand. For instance, this line includes some watches that have the Olympic logo on them.
