Pros & Cons

  • 4K support

  • Great cameras

  • Budget-friendly

  • Gaming-centric chipset

  • Excellent battery mileage

  • Class-leading performance

  • Poor ultra-wide camera results

  • No image stabilization in 4K videos

Good battery mileage, a new gaming-centric chipset and an impressive quad-camera setup make Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro one of the best mid-rangers in Pakistan. The phone is heavy due to the large battery and is not for one-handed use due to being tall and slippery. There is no official waterproofing on the phone but there is a special coating as well as a rubber seal that allows for handling light splashes. The Redmi Note 8 Pro uses the latest version of Xiaomi's MIUI 10 over Android 9 Pie.

The layout is nothing new and the main difference from stock android is that all apps are kept on the home screen and there is no option of an app drawer. Redmi Note 8 Pro colours include Black, Red, Blue, White, Deep Sea Blue, Midnight Blue, Electric Blue and Twilight Orange.

Display & Design

It is built from gorilla glass but uses a plastic frame instead of metal. The finish on this phone is glossy and the glass isn't entirely flat as it has a subtle curve that exudes an aesthetic appeal. The fingerprint sensor sits below the rare cameras and is lightning fast, with no misreads. Redmi Note 8 Pro's screen is a bit large as compared to previous models.

The selfie camera is housed in a small water duct notch at the top. Screen brightness is good but the colours aren't most accurate as whites show bluish. Sound is decent and there is a headphone jack and the sound output is loud and clear. The phone has an IR blaster that can be used as a remote controller for compatible devices.

Gaming & Performance

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro features a Mali-G76 MC4 GPU that tops all of its competitors in terms of gaming performance. Redmi also offers a Game turbo mode that optimizes the phone for better performing in games. The phone has an internal vapour chamber so it doesn't get heated up and one can keep on playing games without thermal throttling. Multitasking is super easy and smooth with the ample 6GB and 8GM RAMs and there are absolutely no glitches or lags in this phone. This is for sure a device for avid gamers as it can handle intense gaming sessions in the highest settings possible.

One of the firsts to offer a 64 MP main camera, the phone also features an 8MP ultra-wide cam, 2MP camera for macro shooting and a 2MP depth sensor on the rear. Daylight photos from the main camera have plenty of detail, great contrast and vibrant colours but there is a visible over-sharpening in some daylight shots. Dynamic range could've been better. However, if you turn on the option of shooting in full 64MP, the results are pretty impressive, with no over-sharpening and the pictures are crisp as well as bright but this takes up a lot of space on the phone. There is no telephoto camera but the phone's 2X magnification is pretty decent.

Dynamic Range

The ultra-wide camera is a downer since it produces soft and low in detail pictures and the dynamic range isn't great either. Nighttime photography with the main camera isn't stellar but the dynamic range is decent and there isn't any noise. Colours are vibrant and the contrasts are great too. Switching to night time mode gives better low light photography and sharper results.

4K Recording

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro's main camera can record high-quality videos up to 4K in 30 fps. There is no image stabilization in 4K mode, which is a bit of an inconvenience but 1080p videos are electronically stabilized. The selfie shooter is a 20MP camera which gives the best selfies on a mid-ranger. The results are sharp, detailed and HDR works great too.

Storage & Battery

Redmi Note 8 Pro has an outstanding battery life but the charging speed is not that impressive. The phone supports quick charge and features ample storage options with 64 and 128GB capacity. The basic 64GB version comes with a 6GB of RAM which is good enough for optimum performance and day to day tasks. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro 128 GB price in Pakistan is much higher than the 64GB version but it has an 8GB RAM that is even better in terms of performance and multitasking.
