Realme the brand

Realme was started as a sub-line of Oppo, later it was made into its own independent brand. Today REalme is among the top 10 largest producers by sheer market numbers. The brand is known for its budget-friendly devices.

The Realme 3 was developed to take a dig at the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, with the 3 Pro they are trying to compete with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro. Both these phone brands are part of the competitively priced segment. The smartphone has a slim form making it easy to hold, with the sides slightly curved at the back which also enhances the grip.

Internals and OS

The Realme 3 Pro is running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, which is more power than usually available at this price. Storage is at 64GB and RAM at 4GB, the storage can be expanded via a dedicated microSD card. With the ColorOS skin layered onto the Android 9 Pie base which has Machine Learning incorporated, this lets the phone learn your patterns and perform more efficiently. A sort of performance personalisation.

Display

Equipped with an IPS LCD display that is 6.3 inches with a waterdrop notch for the selfie camera. With a resolution of 1080x2340p and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The pixel density comes to 409ppi. The display is able to render vibrant colours, with good viewing angles and does well in sunlight too.

Cameras

Coming with a dual-lens main camera, with a 16MP main camera and a 5MP secondary module for depth detection. The sensor is the same as the OnePlus 6T, the Sony IMX519 sensor. The camera app has AI incorporated for scene detection, once it identifies what the camera is taking an image of it changes the settings to optimise for that specific scene. With multiple shooting modes such as Expert (manual settings), Pano, Time-lapse, Slow-mo, and Nightscape. The Nightscape is similar to Oppo and Pixel, a longer exposure shot that needs to be held stable. The selfie camera is a 25MP 1/2.8" sensor behind an f/2.0 aperture lens, capturing good images even without a separate depth sensor. The Realme 3 Pro records video at 4K, at 30fps and there's 1080p at both 30fps and 60fps.

Connectivity, sensors and battery

With support for all the necessary connectivity options including Bluetooth, microUSB, USB-OTG, WiFi and GPS. The USB-OTG allows this device to read other devices without a computer, becoming a USB host essentially. The sensors include the fingerprint sensor on the back, an Accelerometer, the Compass and Proximity sensing. The phone has a large battery at 4045mAh to keep you going easy through the day.

The Realme 3 Pro has great value for the money, with good performing components, a good display and a long battery life. Even the cameras are good for the price range.
