Realme the brand

Starting as a sub-line of the Oppo brand, Realme today is one of the largest brands on its own and is part of the top 10 in the world. This is based on the number of Realme smartphones sold.

The brand caters to a more budget-friendly price range, making models that are affordable for more people; this includes the Realme 3.

The Realme 3 design and build

A slim phone with a minimal bezel and waterdrop notch for the front camera. An entry-level phone as far as the price goes. Available in Classic Black, Dynamic Black and Radiant Blue. Unlike the previous phones by Realme, the Realme 3 has a unibody. A surprising fact given the price; unibody phones cost some more in production.

Display 

Featuring a 6.2-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The screen-to-body ratio is at 88.30%. The resolution of the display is 1520x720p and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The general brightness is good, but in sunlight, it is a bit weak.

OS and performance

The Realme 3's OS is based on Android 9 Pie, with a layer of ColorOS 6 built onto it. The ColorOS is Realme's own user interface. This OS also has the Machine Learning abilities that read the users patterns and keep certain apps frozen in the background for faster loading. One can opt-out of this from the battery segment of the settings. The Pakistani market has the Realme 3 with the Mediatek MT6771 Helio P60, other markets have the Helio P70. Running an Octa-Core processor with A53 cores it is clocking a speed of 2.0GHz. Graphics rendering is handled by the Mali-G72 MP3 chip. 

Cameras on the Realme 3

Coming with a dual rear camera, the main is a 13MP with the secondary 2MP lens for depth detection. The secondary is also being used for the portrait mode, creating the bokeh effect. The camera app has AI that will recognise various scenes and optimise the settings accordingly. Realme 3 has a 13MP selfie camera sitting behind an f/2.0 lens. It's a fixed-focus lens; there is no dedicated flash. For a smartphone that is at such a low price point, the cameras are good.

Connectivity and battery

With all the needed connectivity options including Bluetooth, WiFi and a microUSB port. The phone supports dual SIM as well. The battery is at 4230mAh capacity and is based on Li-Polymer cells that are generally better than the Li-Ion counterparts. The Li-Polymer battery can also be made slimmer in form.

A good phone for the price point. The Realme 3 has all the needed features to stay connected in the digital sphere.
