For smartphone users looking for a budget-friendly option or an elementary phone, Samsung introduced an entry-level variant of its J2 phone, dubbed as the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core. The phone comes with some basic functions and specifications, at the same time being very light on the pocket. Launched in 2018 as part of the Galaxy J series, Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is the first AndroidGo-based phone by Samsung as it uses the Android Oreo Go 8.1.0 operating system.

Pros & Cons

  • Affordable

  • Lightweight

  • Supports Dual SIM

  • Samsung Experience UI

  • Low RAM

  • Average display

  • No fast charging

  • Lacks USB Type C

What's New

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core features the Android Oreo Go 8.1.0 operating system that is specially designed for phones that don't support heavy software due to the small capacity of their ROM and RAM. The phone also includes the Smart Manager that assists you with managing your phone in a smarter way. The Smart Manager helps users directly install apps, manage files easily, move them to the memory card and free up storage space.

Display & Design

A decent 5 inch Super AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, Samsung Galaxy J2 Core has an aspect ratio of 16:9. One of the good things about the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is that it doesn't have the stock Android look, instead, it comes with the Samsung Experience UI. It is the recent development in the UI of Samsung, as the TouchWiz UI was present in earlier iterations instead. The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is available in blue, black and gold colours.

Performance, Platform & RAM

The J2 Core uses Exynos 7570 Quad 14nm chipset with 1.4 GHz Cortex A53 Quad-Core Processor and a 1GB RAM. Though it is optimized with pre-installed apps to give you a more user-friendly experience, the J2 core lacks in the performance department due to its low RAM. The phone's Performance Enhancer optimizes your smartphone by putting unwanted background apps to sleep but struggles with keep lags and glitches at bay.

You can make decent pictures with its rear 8 MP camera, that features Panorama and HDR modes and a LED flash. The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is capable of shooting videos in 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps). The phone has a 5 MP front camera that gives fine results.

Storage & Battery

The built-in memory of the handset is 8 GB that can be extended by adding microSD card up to 256 GB. Galaxy J2 Core provides an average battery power with a removable Li-Ion battery, holding the capacity of 2,600mAh. The phone also offers a power-saving function that manages apps and CPU performance and automatically decreases brightness levels to extend battery usage times.

Connectivity & Sensors

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is a Dual-Sim and Dual-Standby phone with accelerometer and proximity sensors and also GPS, WIFI and Bluetooth connectivity.
