Calvin Klein Obsession

Calvin Klein is among the most famous American fashion houses that keeps up with many of the European houses. Established in 1968 by Calvin Klein and Barry K. Shwartz, today it is a multi-billion dollar brand. Fragrances un the Calvin Klein label is owned by the beauty product giant Coty.

Calvin Klein Obsession

The first version of Obsession was for women and was released in 1985; it is tagged as an amber spicy scent. It has quite a lot of top notes to start with that are all aimed at a fresh initiation. These include bergamot, mandarin orange, lemon, peach, green notes, basil and vanilla. The vanilla also gives it a hint of an oriental feel.

At the heart, one finds spices, sandalwood, coriander, cedar, jasmine, orange blossom, rose and oakmoss. These heart notes give it a lead into the warmer, more full side of scent. The base notes include vanilla, incense, civet, musk, vetiver and amber. All these notes come together to create an amber spicy perfume that has a lighter opening so it is balanced out. 

The men's version that came out in 1986 is also more about the amber base, but its second strongest accords are woody. For the top notes, there is lavender, cinnamon, mandarin orange, grapefruit, lemon, bergamot and coriander. This is a good mix of citrus and spice so the opening is light plus tingly.

The middle notes are made from red berries, jasmine, pine tree, sage, Brazilian rosewood, nutmeg, myrrh and carnation. This also lends a bit more spice, adds some wood and carries into the warmer base. To anchor all these the base has vanilla, musk, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver and amber. Overall Calvin Klein Obsession for men is considered a sensuous mix with a good balance of freshness along with the warmth that comes with amber and wood notes.

Over time Calvin Klein introduced more versions in the Obsession line.

Both the men's version and the women's version of Obsession are often thought of as autumn night scents, but this is not a fixed timing or season. One could wear them whenever they see fit.
